And I thought I’d give you all a quick update about what we’ve been up to while things have been quiet and why I am SO excited about what PEPPR is getting ready to offer.
First, you might have known that we have a new party person on our team! Eloise Margaret Gruber-Chatfield was born on March 26th at 1 lb 6 oz and 12.5 inches long. Yes, you read that right. Born 12 weeks premature in the midst of a global pandemic…She has a bit of a flare for the dramatic.
Baby Elle spent her first 98 days in the NICU while COVID-19 spread and quarantines and lockdowns shut down industry after industry. Having spent my life in the restaurant industry I ached for the businesses I was watching struggle.
I spent everyday with Eloise in the hospital, and allowed PEPPR to remain on the back burner. Like many of us, I assumed that soon the pandemic would be under control and we’d be home with our baby and I’d be able to get back to work helping restaurants book group and private dining events. Of course, things have continued far longer than anyone anticipated.
As Eloise got settled in at home and I realized I was ready to get back to work, it became more and more clear that a lot of businesses would need to adapt in order to survive this period in our history, and that PEPPR would need to be one of those businesses.
With a massive decline in group dining, and the constant “what if this is outlawed again?”, it didn’t make sense to continue promoting private party planning. It was time to pivot.
And thus, PEPPR Party Packages are born! Designed with local restaurants in mind, these packages include local libations, shareable appetizers, family style entrees, and unique desserts all delivered ready-to-heat at your front door.
For our vendors, this creates an opportunity to increase revenue, introduce their products to new customers, and support other KC businesses… without increasing headaches.
I was literally raised in KC restaurants, tagging along on sales calls with my dad when he worked as a food sales rep for Pisciotta’s throughout my preschool years. And I can’t begin to count the number of amazing people that have become friends and family thanks to my time in the industry.
My pledge to restaurants and all vendors is that PEPPR is here to help you! So, no fees or commissions for the remainder of 2020, and likely until things are “back to normal”. 24 hour notice on all orders, no frantic calls in the middle of the dinner rush. And no unhappy customers, PEPPR will handle any problems that come up (including any refunds).
Whilst we were away there was also a worldwide spotlight on the injustices people of color, particularly Black folks, face in this country on a daily basis. As our nation grapples with a history of systemically holding down minorities, it’s important to recognize the small ways that we can work towards a more fair and equitable future.
For this reason, each of the PEPPR Packages will feature at least one minority owned business. We’ll also be launching an all BIPOC-owned package in addition to our woman-owned package, with proceeds going to local organizations doing work in those communities. We hope to have big news regarding those partnerships soon, so be sure to follow us on social media to be the first to know!
As we prepare to launch this new service this Fall we’re looking for your recommendations KC. Know of a great restaurant, food truck, catering business with delicious dishes that can feed a crowd, be prepared in the business and delivered, ready-to-heat, right to customers’ front door?
Shoot us an email or fill out our get in touch form to let us know!
I’m excited to be back to work, excited to watch baby Eloise grow, and excited to start bringing the flavors of a night out to the comfort and safety of home.
